Top 3 Takeaways from 26th A4M Spring World Congress

The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M) held its 26th A4M Spring World Congress this past week-end. Here is what we learned.

“You are not stuck with the brain you have!”

-Dr. Daniel Amen, April 2018

The theme of this fascinating conference was “BRAIN AWAKENING” and what an awakening it was! We certainly do not pamper our most precious organ enough and with today’s lifestyle and stress, our brain is challenged.

Here are the Top 3 Takeaways:

1. MOLD exposure and its consequences

Brain fog, weight gain, cognitive decline … Mold is a player that we should consider more often. Mold is a neurotoxin and a disruptor and some of us are more susceptible than others due to our genetic variations. Something to keep in mind!

CLEAN AIR, CLEAN WATER and CLEAN FOOD.

Get tested and test your home if you sustained water damage.

2. You are not stuck with the brain you have

The panel of speakers was remarkable but DR Daniel Amen and his brain scans were sensational: He wrote the Brain Warrior’s Way book (that I purchased and am currently reading) Enlightening and motivating not only for brain health but well being overall. “You are not stuck with the brain you have” amazing statement, as the most harmful factors are preventable, and you can rewire your brain!

EXERCISE, BALANCE YOUR HORMONES AND SUPPLEMENT!

  • The Take Home Message: Exercise (sweat), Learn every day, Eat a healthy diet (organic and pastured raised), Avoid toxins (mold, pesticides, Aluminum, Parabens…), Control your stress (meditate).
  • Balance your hormones:
    • Testosterone – mood, motivation, sexuality, strength
    • Thyroid – energy and mental clarity
    • DHEA – fight aging
    • Estrogen and progesterone – boost blood flow
  • Supplement for brain health: Omega 3’s (fish oil), Vit D, turmeric, probiotics
3. The Brain-Gut relationship: Keep the inflammation down

Stress, toxins, pathogens, gluten, sugar… will increase inflammation in many individuals and cause in turn an unbalance in your gut. If your gut becomes inflamed your brain will be inflamed as well (leaky gut/leaky brain). The gut -brain relationship is real and highly influenceable.

PAMPER YOUR GUT!

If you know your gut is off and you suffer from gastro-intestinal symptoms like bloating, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, heart burns or even Unexplained weight gain, your gut should be assessed and re-balanced. I brought home some amazing tests to complement our current ones. These tests will take us deeper in the root cause analysis of your symptoms and guide us better in our personalized approach and treatments.
