e all at one point in our lives felt uncomfortable about our weight. This may have happened at a young age or after a pregnancy or just slowly increased over the years. Being overweight today is no longer an exception and seems to touch more women than men. This pandemic is not about looks anymore as it now affects our health and longevity. Being overweight increases the chances of developing some serious diseases like heart attacks, strokes and cancer.

I have worked in the weight management field for some time and have felt quite irritated with the outcomes. Life or excuses seemed to always interfere with the “master plan of diet and exercise”. The traditional approach of BMI and weight measurements, appetite suppressants and meal plans of the latest diet promoted that year did not seem to help my client’s long-term goal. Frustration was reciprocal.

As I entered the functional medicine world, my views on the Weight Management have evolved as well. This serious topic should ALSO be addressed with a new multi-functional approach as individuals develop weight issues over time very differently than others. Diet and exercise are still key components of a weight management program, but the environment and other variables should also be heavily considered.

The Super Journey was born! I developed this program as a brand new equation. Weight loss = Diet +Exercise + x (the unknown variable). That unknown variable is the reason why our body does not listen when we call for weight loss. Meet Jaime… 40 year old, mother of two and works full time. Skips breakfast, comes home late, eats late. Jaime has no particular diet but watches calories. She experiences some bloating after eating.

JAIME’S GOALS
Currently at 165 Lbs, Jaime wants to lose 15 Lbs within 6 months. She is highly motivated.
JAIME’S BASELINE
Clinical findings and relevant data to isolate her X variables:

- Mother of two
- 40 year old
- Works full time
- Eating habits: Skips breakfast, comes home late, eats late. No particular diet, watches calories. Experiences some bloating after eating.
- Mother has hypothyroidism
- No particular underlying medical conditions.
- No time to exercise or relax
- Stressed rated as 6 / 10

JAIME’S PERSONALIZED PROGRAM
Using the intake forms, interview and baseline testing results, we identified 4 root causes for weight gain in Jaime's case:

1- Stress: Abnormal cortisol, sub-clinical hypothyroidism.
2- Abnormal metabolic panel: Insulin resistance noted.
3- Food sensitivity: Dairy and gluten sensitive.
4- Sedentary lifestyle involving little or no physical activity.

We then developed a plan just for Jaime's unique situation, which addressed each of the four issues and consisted of:

1- Adaptogens, thyroid supplementation and medication.
2- Mandatory breakfast, no carbs after 5pm, no eating past 8pm.
3- Aim at 80% gluten-free diet, replace dairies by almond milk.
4- Implement walking daily: 10mn at lunch and 15mn in the evening.

We scheduled her follow up sessions on a monthly cadence to keep Jaime on track.
EXECUTION
I met each month with Jaime to continue the coaching, measure the progress and make any necessary adjustments. During each check point, we plotted the results and compared against the baseline data. New metabolic, thyroid labs and biometrics were ordered to follow progress and adjust regimen.

Medical regimen such as thyroid support was monitored and adjusted, Advanced micro nutrient testing was ordered to supplement her vitamin deficiencies appropriately.

I also heavily focus on subjective feedback, such as level of energy, morale, food cravings. I encouraged Jaime to create a vision board. Dietary guidance and meal plans were adjusted with every visit, The exercise regimen was increased as tolerance level was improved.
JAIME’S EXIT STRATEGY
Jaime's goal was achieved and she feels fantastic. She lost 16 Lbs within the 6 month period.
As an exit strategy, she decided to stay on her thyroid support and medication.
She will not reintroduce dairy products and will use gluten seldomly as her bloating disappears,
A follow up visit was scheduled every six month.

Q – I live in Orlando. Do you accept weight management patients outside of Brevard County?

A – Most our patients live in Rockledge, Melbourne, Viera, Suntree, Merritt Island, Titusville and Palm Bay. However, we also have clients outside of Brevard county and out of state.

Q – I’m already a client for hormone treatment. How does this weight loss program fit into my treatment? Do I to pay extra to enroll in this weight loss program?

A – The only requirement to enroll in Super Women’s Health medical weight management program is to be on a monthly plan for best outcome. We offer a 6-month plan and a 12-month plan to fit your budget and goals.
